We thank God for all the ways He's blessed us through the work of the Friars and for showing us our next steps. We hope to see you at Holy  Family on Thursday September 25 for 7:15 Mass followed by a wine and cheese social. (We'll get our full Fall schedule to you within the first week of September.)

Dear SFCS Members and Friends,
It's with great regret that I inform you that the St. Francis  Friary-As We Know It-is closing this September 2014.  In 1997, Father Philip Blaine managed to save the Friary from closing by launching the  Spirituality Center, which has done tremendous work in offering  retreats and spiritual programs, but seventeen years later there simply aren't enough priests and brothers to keep an enterprise as large as the Friary running. The friars have all been reassigned to different parishes, ministries and locations. It's still unclear how the Franciscans will use the building, but it is clear that all groups have to find a new home including ours. I know how much the Friary has meant to so many of you who've attended not only the Singles group but  the many retreats and celebrations over the years. This is certainly the bad news.

The good news is that our Singles group has a new home to go to.  Father Austin Titus, pastor of Holy Family Parish on Watchogue Road,  is welcoming us with open arms. Effective with our first meeting of  the new season on Thursday September 25, all our monthly meetings will now be held at the Church of the Holy Family at 366 Watchogue Road,
10314 . We needed and wanted a parish that would have the desire and resources to take us under their wing but also one that was centrally located for most Staten Islanders. We found that place in Holy Family.

It's sad to have to say good bye to the Friary, the place that brought so many of us together over the last thirteen years and helped us on  our spiritual journeys. It's sad to say farewell to Father Philip Blaine who gave our group the green light to begin with and who has  been our Spiritual Director all these years. I know that those of you  who know Father Philip join me in thanking him for all that he's done for the Friary, the Spirituality Center and our group and in wishing
him and all the friars God's blessings as they make this transition.

We sincerely hope that all of you who have been attending SFCS at the Friary in recent months and years will follow us to Holy Family, so that we can continue our fun and fellowship. We also hope that those of you who haven't will consider (re)joining us. This is an especially  exciting time for our group. A new location will mean new membership to add to our already strong base of members and friendships and a better chance than ever to meet more like-minded singles.

Blessings,
Maria Giura, SFCS Founder & Leader & Core Group
